| SCC@Tanah Merah is one of two designated ‘landing points’ to receive the evacuated ‘passengers’ of the emergency exercise on 23 May 2008. Operations at SCC@Tanah Merah will remain as per normal and the public can continue to use the terminal. Only a section of SCC@Tanah Merah will be closed for Exercise Northstar VI.
Exercise Northstar VI is a nation-wide exercise designed to test the country’s preparedness to respond effectively and efficiently to passenger ship mishaps at all time. The exercise is the sixth in the series conducted since 1997. Northstar exercises are designed to test the command, control and coordination of a multi-agency response to managing major incidents in Singapore.
Northstar VI is the first large-scale exercise involving a simulated marine incident on board a cruise ship. It highlights and demonstrates the comprehensive marine contingency plans and readiness of all relevant agencies in responding to incidents in our port. This exercise plans for a fire and rescue scenario. Some 1600 volunteers will role play as ‘passengers’ on board a cruise vessel.
Singapore Cruise Centre Pte Ltd seeks the public’s cooperation and understanding in case of any inconvenience caused during the duration of the exercise.
